Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases represent a major cause of morbidity, mortality, and healthcare burden worldwide and encompass a broad spectrum of disorders affecting the heart and vascular system. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the clinical principles underlying the diagnosis, evaluation, management, and prevention of major cardiovascular conditions, with particular emphasis on hypertension, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and vascular disorders. Hypertension is discussed as an important modifiable cardiovascular risk factor, including its classification, pathophysiology, clinical assessment, complications, and contemporary therapeutic approaches. Ischemic heart disease is addressed through the mechanisms of atherosclerosis and myocardial ischemia, clinical manifestations of chronic coronary syndromes and acute coronary syndromes, diagnostic investigations, risk stratification, pharmacological management, and revascularization strategies. The section on heart failure examines underlying mechanisms, clinical phenotypes, diagnostic evaluation, guideline-directed medical therapy, and approaches to acute and chronic disease management. Cardiac arrhythmias are reviewed with emphasis on electrocardiographic recognition, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias, bradyarrhythmias, anticoagulation, and device-based therapies. Important vascular disorders, including peripheral arterial disease, aortic disease, venous thromboembolism, and other vascular conditions, are also considered. Preventive cardiology, lifestyle modification, lipid management, diabetes control, smoking cessation, and cardiovascular risk assessment are integrated throughout the chapter. A systematic, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach to cardiovascular medicine is essential for early diagnosis, effective treatment, complication prevention, and improvement of long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
