Abstract
Healthcare leadership, strategic management, and organizational behavior are essential components of effective healthcare administration and directly influence institutional performance, workforce engagement, patient safety, and quality of care. This chapter examines the principles and practices required to lead and manage contemporary healthcare organizations within increasingly complex, dynamic, and resource-constrained environments. It explores major leadership approaches, including transformational, transactional, situational, servant, and collaborative leadership, with particular emphasis on their application in hospitals and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Strategic management concepts such as environmental analysis, vision and mission development, goal setting, strategic planning, resource allocation, implementation, performance monitoring, and organizational change are discussed within the healthcare context. The chapter further examines organizational behavior by addressing motivation, communication, teamwork, workplace culture, professional relationships, conflict management, employee engagement, decision-making, and organizational commitment. Special attention is given to managing resistance to change, developing emotionally intelligent leaders, promoting ethical leadership, and creating a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. The growing importance of data-driven decision-making, digital transformation, workforce diversity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and crisis leadership is also highlighted. Effective integration of leadership, strategic management, and organizational behavior enables healthcare institutions to align human and organizational resources with long-term objectives while responding effectively to changing patient needs and regulatory requirements. This chapter provides healthcare administrators, professionals, students, and emerging leaders with a practical conceptual foundation for developing resilient, high-performing, patient-centered healthcare organizations.
